News Bet On It: Disney Plans Fourth "High School Musical" Disney has announced that writing has begun on the fourth installment in its lucrative "High School Musical" franchise.

With "High School Musical 3: Senior Year" slated for a fall film release, Disney Channel Worldwide president Rich Ross confirmed to the Hollywood Reporter that a fourth film is in the works.

There is speculation as to whether the young stars of "High School Musical" – including Zac Efron, Vanessa Anne Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale and Corbin Bleu – will return for a fourth installment. "Are we going to have all the cast back? Probably not," Ross informed the Hollywood Reporter. "Will we have some of them? I hope so."

The tales of Troy, Sharpay, Montez, Chad and gang continue to maintain popularity with 'tween audiences worldwide. After debuting on the Disney Channel in 2006, a concert tour and ice show were quickly launched. The ice show will also embark on a 2008 world tour, incorporating selections from the first two "High School Musical" films.

Shortly following its Disney Channel premiere, "High School Musical" was also fast-tracked for adaptation into a stage property of the same name. The 2006 stage musical, incorporating two new songs, has become popular with high schools and community theatres nationwide. Resident regional productions of the profitable crowd-pleaser have also popped up at major venues, and an ongoing national tour was launched in 2007.

Disney continues to capitalize off the force of "High School Musical" with a stage adaptation of "High School Musical 2" and High School Musical Jr. slated for licensing from Music Theatre International later this year.
