Famed lyricist Betty Comden will be honored Sept. 27 at the 2004 Theatre Museum Awards for Excellence.

The gala, hosted by Stewart F. Lane, will benefit the Theatre Museum and will include the presentation of five awards. Comden will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award; other awards include the Theatre Arts in Education Award (to be given to F.H. LaGuardia High School of Music, Art & Performing Arts), the Service to the Community Award (to be given to the Princess Grace Foundation USA), the Theatre History Preservation Award (to be given to Dodger Costumes) and the Theatre Museum Award (to be given to the 100th Anniversary of Times Square). Tina Landau, William Ivey Long and Wendy Wasserstein will also be on hand for the event, which will be held at the Players Club in Gramercy Park. KT Sullivan, David Beach and Lucille deCristofara are expected to perform at the gala evening, which begins at 6 PM.

With her late writing partner Adolph Green, Betty Comden has written the book and/or lyrics for On the Town; Bells Are Ringing; On the Twentieth Century; Wonderful Town; Hallelujah, Baby!; Applause; Peter Pan; A Doll's Life; Do Re Mi and The Will Rogers Follies. Comden and Green’s films include "Singin’ in the Rain" and "The Band Wagon," and they were both awarded the Kennedy Center Honors in 1991.
