News Billy Crystal To Play Toronto, Boston, San Francisco with Tony-Winning Solo Show, 700 Sundays Billy Crystal's Tony Award-winning solo 700 Sundays has added more limited engagements in major cities, including stops in Boston, San Francisco and Toronto.

Tony Award winner Des McAnuff (Big River, The Who's Tommy) again directs the work performed and written by Crystal with additional content by Alan Zweibel.

700 Sundays will play Sept. 28-Oct. 9 at Toronto's Canon Theatre. In Boston, the show will begin performances at The Opera House Oct. 18 for a two-week run through Oct. 29. The Chicago run at the Cadillac Palace Theatre will play Nov. 8-20. San Francisco audiences will enjoy the solo at the Golden Gate Theatre for three weeks, Nov. 29-Dec. 17.

700 Sundays is billed as two-act play that "deals with [Crystal's] youth, growing up in the jazz world of Manhattan, his teenage years, and finally adulthood." The title refers to the number of days Crystal got to spend with his busy-with-jobs father who died when young Billy was only 15.

The solo work began performances on Broadway Nov. 12, 2004 and opened Dec. 5 at the Broadhurst Theatre for a run originally slated through March 6. The show — which won the Tony Award for Special Theatrical Event — extended through June 12.

Broadway producers Janice Crystal (the star's wife) and Larry Magid are joined by Face Productions for the new run of the work which was developed at La Jolla Playhouse, where McAnuff is artistic director. The design team for 700 Sundays features David F. Weiner (scenic), David Lee Cuthbert (lighting), Michael Clark (projection) and Steve Canyon Kennedy (sound).
