Eric Krebs and AMAS Musical Theatre are presenting the Nov. 13-15 readings, which will begin at 6 PM. Those scheduled to be part of the free readings include Joel Blum, Kathy Calahan, Kimberly Reid Dunbar, Vanessa Jones, Don Mayo, Trish Rapier, Steve Sterner and Chris Zelno with Bradley Dean in the title role. Lorenzo features music by Judd Woldin, lyrics by Richard Engquist and a book by Engquist and Woldin. Christopher Scott will direct the readings with musical direction by John Baxindine.

"Who is Lorenzo?" press notes ask. "Lorenzo Da Ponte began life as a poor, Italian, Jewish poet and ended up as a professor at Columbia University. Along the way he became a priest… was driven out of Venice by furious husbands… fled Vienna for being in the wrong political camp… escaped from debtor's prison in London after going bankrupt starting a grand opera company…  became a grocer in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Ultimately, Lorenzo Da Ponte became the first professor of Italian at Columbia…. By the way, while in Venna he wrote the librettos for Mozart's three great operas, Cosi Fan Tutti, The Marriage Of Figaro and Don Giovanni."

The musical's producers intend to bring the new musical to Broadway in fall of 2008, according to a press release.

Seats are available to the public at 6 PM prior to each reading (subject to availability).

The Players Theater is located in Manhattan at 115 MacDougal Street.
