Classic Arts News BMG Executive Gilbert Hetherwick Named Head of Sony BMG Classical Division Gilbert Hetherwick has been named president of the newly merged Sony BMG's classical division, the company announced.
The new position will involve oversight all of the company's classical labels, including RCA Red Seal, Sony Classical, Deutsche Harmonia Mundi, Odyssey, and Arte Nova. These labels feature recordings by such celebrated musicians as Yo-Yo Ma, Joshua Bell, John Williams, and Evgeny Kissin.

Hetherwick has served as vice president and general manager of BMG Classics since 2003, and was general manager of Angel Records/EMI Classics for four years before that. He has also held managerial posts at Sony Classical and Telarc Records.

The short-term role of Peter Gelb, who leaves his post as president of Sony Classical in August to begin preparation to succeed general manager Joseph Volpe at the Metropolitan Opera, is not yet clear. According to the company's press release, Gelb is "in discussions" with Sony BMG about his function before his departure.
