VocalEssence will present a festival of composer William Bolcom's music in April 2007, the Minneapolis-based choir announced. The event, a collaboration with many of the leading arts groups in the Twin Cities, will include performances of the Grammy-winning Songs of Innocence and of Experience.

"Illuminating Bolcom" will run from April 21 through May 5. Participating groups and venues include the Minnesota Orchestra, Minnesota Opera, Minnesota Chorale, Minnesota Public Radio, the Schubert Club, Benson Great Hall, the Fitzgerald Theater, and Orchestra Hall.

Songs of Innocence and of Experience, a large-scale choral setting of William Blake's poems, was first performed in 1984; a recording led by Leonard Slatkin won four Grammy Awards last month. The Minneapolis performances will feature the Minnesota Chorale, Minnesota Boy Choir, and VocalEssence; Philip Brunelle, VocalEssence's artistic director, will conduct.

Other highlights include performances of Bolcom's cabaret songs and arts songs; a master class with Bolcom and soprano Joan Morris, his wife and collaborator; and Minnesota Orchestra performances featuring Bolcom's Commedia, for (almost) Eighteenth-Century Orchestra.
