She's best known for taking life "One Day At A Time"; he's best known for dismantling HAL the computer. Together, Bonnie Franklin and Keir Dullea are sharing a Double Act at New Hampshire's American Stage Festival. The show, which opened July 23, closes Aug. 2.
Franklin and Dullea star in a comedy by Australian playwright Barry Creyton. Double Act tells of a couple who meet again years after their ugly divorce.
Author Creyton has already made headway on these shores by contributing sketch material to Off-Broadway's Secrets Every Smart Traveler Should Know.
Besides playing the space-suited commander Dave Bowman in Stanley Kubrick's film, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Dullea appeared in Molly Sweeney at NC's Playmakers Rep in 1997. Broadway roles for Dullea have included Dr. Cook's Garden and P.S. Your Cat Is Dead, along with the film David and Lisa.
Besides co-starring the original production of Applause (for which she received a Tony nomination and Outer Critics Circle Award), Franklin's stage credits include Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune, Dames at Sea, and Your Own Thing Off-Broadway. She and Dullea have already worked together at American Stage Fest -- in 1993's Love Letters. Franklin also appeared in The Gingerbread Lady at ASF in 1995, while Dullea starred there in Private Lives. Directed by Matthew Parent, Double Act features sets by Sarah Sullivan, lighting by Dennis Parichy and costumes by Ted Giammona.
