On June 14, the day that his AIDS-clinic play Ascendancy closes at Theatre Off-Park, Gary Bonasorte heads for Denver to begin work on the book of a new musical. "It's called Jerusalem: A Love Story," he said recently. "It's about an American journalist who falls in love with an Israeli colonel during a visit to present-day Jerusalem."

Lawrence Bernstein, a composer in Denver, is doing the music to Robert Mitchell's lyrics. The director is Michael Sheeman, who helmed Message to Michael last year.

"We're going to do a reading of the first act in July,"said Bonasorte, "then we'll finish the second act and do a reading of that in September. We're all very excited about this project. It's new -- an original book and original music -- and it's got a spirit to it."
