At the 13th annual presentation of The Theatre Book Prize, administered by Britain's Society for Theatre Research, dance critic and author Jann Parry's "Different Drummer: the Life of Kenneth MacMillan" took this year's award.  The award was presented by actress and author Sheila Hancock to the author at the ceremony,  which was held April 27 at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. The book was chosen by  a judging panel that comprised theatre critic (and Playbill.com London correspondent) Mark Shenton, actor Matthew Kelly and academic and author Professor Jane Moody, from a shortlist that also included Susie Gilbert's "Opera for Everyone," Andrew McConnell Stott's "The Pantomime Life of Joseph Grimaldi," "The Oxford Handbook of Early Modern Theatre" (edited by Richard Dutton), and Tom Postlewait's "The Cambridge Introduction to Theatre Historiography." Stott's book on Grimaldi, meanwhile, won the third annual Sheridan Morley Prize for Theatre Biography, presented in a ceremony at London's Garrick Club April 28. It was chosen by a judging panel that comprised theatre critic Susannah Clapp, actress Eileen Atkins, and Michael Holroyd, author of last year's winner of the award for "A Strange Eventful History," a biography of Henry Irving and Ellen Terry. The shortlist also contained Sjeng Scheijen's "Diaghilev: A Life" and Richard Eyre's "Talking Theatre."
