"It is such a phenomenal opportunity to have Peter Martins creating a world premiere piece with Boston Ballet," said Boston Ballet artistic director Mikko Nissinen in a statement. "Mr. Martins represents a direct link to Mr. Balanchine's incredible era and style, and he rarely works outside of New York City Ballet."

Also on the program, which runs through October 24, are Balanchine's Rubies (the second part of the full-length Jewels), set to Stravinsky's Capriccio for Piano and Orchestra, and Divertimento No. 15, set to the Mozart work.

Boston Ballet's season ends on May 15, 2005, and includes John Cranko's full-length Taming of the Shrew, The Nutcracker, and The Sleeping Beauty.
