Classic Arts News Boston Early Music Festival to Stage Lully's Psyche in 2007 The Boston Early Music Festival will present the modern premiere of Jean-Baptiste Lully's 1678 Psyche in 2007, the Boston Globe reports.
The production will be based on a new edition of the opera by musicologist John Powell. French theater director Gilbert Blin, who staged the festival's production of Lully's Th_s_e in 2001, will direct; BEMF artistic directors Paul O'Dette and Stephen Stubbs will oversee the music.

Sopranos Carolyn Sampson and Karina Gauvin will star as Psyche and Venus.

BEMF produces a concert series as well as a biennial festival and exhibition, which this year featured the staged premiere of Boris Goudenow, a 1710 opera by Johann Mattheson. The group's recording of Johann Georg Conradi's Ariadne, the centerpiece of the 2003 festival, spent time on the Billboard classical chart this year and was recently nominated for a Grammy Award.
