Classic Arts News Boston Lyric Opera Announces Season Plans Boston Lyric Opera will celebrate its 30th anniversary next season with Puccini's Madama Butterfly, Verdi's Un ballo in maschera, and Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro.
The 2006-07 season opens on November 3 with Madama Butterfly, featuring soprano Kelly Kaduce as Cio-Cio-San and tenor Gerard Powers making his company debut as Pinkerton. Boston Pops conductor Keith Lockhart conducts; Colin Graham directs; sets, originally created for the Minnesota Opera and Opera Theatre of St. Louis, are by Neil Patel.

Tenor Julian Gavin and soprano Doina Dimitriu will make their BLO debuts as Gustavus III and Amelia in Un ballo in maschera, with BLO music director Stephen Lord conducting and James Robinson directing. Sets are by Allen Moyer, whose previous designs for BLO include Rigoletto and Don Giovanni.

The season concludes in spring 2007 with Le nozze di Figaro, with baritone Paulo Szot making his company debut as the Count and soprano Nicole Cabell singing the Countess. Kate Lindsey sings Cherubino; Stephen Lord conducts; John Copley directs. Sets, originally created for the Banff Centre for the Arts in Alberta, Canada, are by Susan Benson.
