Classic Arts News Boston Symphony Rededicates Its Organ After Renovation The Boston Symphony hosts an open house from noon to 8:30 p.m. today. The day includes a question-and-answer session with new music director James Levine and the rededication of the BSO's organ, which was recently renovated.
The 1947 Aeolian-Skinner organ was removed in January 2003, allowing its chamber to be refurbished. The organ was then reconstructed with some new pipes and a new console. Final tuning was completed this past summer.

Today's organ-centric events include a performance of music for brass and organ with the BSO brass section, two organ recitals, baseball music played by Red Sox organist Josh Kantor, and a screening of Murnau's 1922 silent film Nosferatu with live organ accompaniment.

In addition, Levine, who made his much-anticipated debut as BSO music director last month, will answer questions from the audience with managing director Mark Volpe.
