The Boston Conservatory will present the New England premiere of the Tony-nominated musical, Side Show , for a limited five- performance engagement, Feb. 25-28.
The show, with book and lyrics by Bill Russell and music by Henry Krieger (Dreamgirls), tells the semi-biographical story of Daisy and Violet Hilton, a set of Siamese twins who performed in vaudeville acts in the early years of the 20th century. One twin loves the limelight, the other longs for the simpler life. How they work out their conflict and find love is the story of Side Show.
The Boston Conservatory will hold a special lunch honoring Russell on February 8, with the cast and director of the production. As well as penning the book for Side Show, Russell's other musical writing credits include: Pageant, Elegies for Angels, Punks, and Raging Queens, and The Texas Chainsaw Musical.
The Boston Conservatory of Music was founded in 1867. The school instructs students in music, theatre, and dance, and specialized in turning out so-called "triple threats." Each year the Conservatory presents three mainstage theatre productions. Past shows have included the New England premiere of Stephen Sondheim's Assassins.
