"Things are proceeding appropriately," executive director Gary Hanson told the Plain Dealer. "But there is no question we are dealing with a very challenging negotiation and situation. It's not possible at this time to predict the outcome."
Percussionist Donald Miller, who represents the musicians, said, "We're moving forward. Both sides are making a very strong effort that we work together to come to a solution. We have a long way to go. But there has definitely been a cooperative atmosphere."
The Cleveland Orchestra is one of several major orchestras engaged in contract talks. Musicians at Chicago Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, and New York Philharmonic have also agreed to temporary contract extensions.
