The show premiered at the 2008 Edinburgh Intenrational Festival, after a preview run at Plymouth's Theatre Royal, and a subsequent run at Sadler's Wells.

The new tour will commence at Bromley's Churchill Theatre on June 3, then continue to Milton Keynes, Italy's Ravenna Festival, Bradford, London's Sadler's Wells (July 7-19), the Mossovet Theatre in Moscow, Leicester, Sheffield, Glasgow, the New Wimbledon Theatre (London), Saldford, Cardiff, High Wycombe, Birmingham and Woking, where the tour ends Nov. 21.

Bourne, who devised, directed and choreographed the production, is joined by Terry Davies (composer), Lez Brotherston (design) and Paule Constable (lighting), all of whom previously worked with him on his Olivier-Award winning production of Play without Words. The original production of Dorian Gray was commissioned by the Edinburgh International Festival in association with Sadler's Wells. It was Bourne's first new work for the company in nearly three years.

According to press materials, Dorian Gray is set in the image-obsessed worlds of contemporary art and politics. The dark fairy tale tells the story of an exceptionally alluring young man who makes a pact with the devil. Amongst London's beautiful people, Dorian Gray is the "It Boy" – an icon of beauty and truth in an increasingly ugly world.

Bourne's previous productions for New Adventures, the company he originally founded as Adventures in Motion Pictures, include the iconic Swan Lake (featuring an all-male corps-de-ballet that came to Broadway and has also played several seasons in the West End), Nutcracker! (which toured again last year), The Car Man, Edward Scissorhands (which toured to Australia last year, including a season at Sydney Opera House) and Play without Words (based on The Servant that was first produced at the National Theatre). Bourne is also a noted theatrical choreographer, currently represented by Mary Poppins on Broadway (which he co-choreographed with Stephen Mear and co-directed with Richard Eyre), and Oliver!, which he also co-directed, in the West End at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.

Much of the original cast will return to the production, including Richard Winsor in the title role and Michela Meazza as Lady H. They are joined by Jason Piper, who takes the role of Basil Hallward. Jason last worked with New Adventures dancing The Swan in Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake in 2005. Other cast members include Ashley Bain, Joe Colasanti, Jared Hageman, Dominic Lamb, Christopher Marney, Dominic North, Joe Walkling and Chloe Wilkinson.
