Knowles, who also starred in the film adaptation of Dreamgirls, was previously reported to be attached to the project with Clint Eastwood slated to direct. Reports later indicated that the singer had exited the film.
Deadline's latest report states that "A Star Is Born" is back on track with Cooper collaborating with screen writer Will Fetters, who was on board for the Eastwood-directed version. Knowles has not been officially approached, but Deadline indicates that Cooper is hopeful she can be lured back to the role of a small-time nightclub singer, who eventually achieves international stardom. The role was previously played by Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand, among others.
It is expected that the project will get underway once Cooper completes his upcoming run in the London transfer of The Elephant Man. Cooper will produce along with Todd Phillips, Jon Peters, Billy Gerber and Basil Iwanyk.
"A Star Is Born" will mark Cooper's directorial debut.
