News Brain From Planet X, with Kevin Spirtas, Begins World-Premiere Run Dec. 8 The world premiere of Bruce Kimmel and David Wechter's musical The Brain From Planet X begins performances Dec. 8 at the Los Angeles City College Theatre Academy's Camino Theatre.

Kevin Spirtas, Lauren Rubin and Alet Taylor are the three guest artists in the musical's cast, which also features advanced students from LACCTA. Directed by composer Kimmel, The Brain From Planet X will play through Dec. 16.

The cast also features Egbert Bernard (The Brain), Benjamin Clark (Narrator and Professor Leder), Michael Hausner (General Mills), Cason Murphy (Zubrick), Lauren Rubin (Joyce), Kevin Spirtas (Fred), Alet Taylor (Yoni), Darcy Weinberger (Donna) and Grady Williams (Rod) with Aundréa Colfield, Svetlana Kisiyan, Ksenia Litomisky, Bryan Macrina (standby for Kevin Spirtas), Masafumi Matsumoto, Chie Saito, Efrén Sanchez, Alfonso Toxqui and Eric Brown.

The creative team includes Richard Berent (musical director), Larry Moore (orchestrator), Kevin Morrissey (set designer and production manager), James Moody (lighting designer and technical director), Diane Sisko (costume designer), Cricket Myers (sound designer), Shari Jordan (choreographer for "The Brain Tap"), Terri Reh (student costume designer) and Brad Enochs (sound and lighting).

The Brain From Planet X features a score by Kimmel and a book by Kimmel and David Wechter. In a statement, composer-director Kimmel said, "The Brain From Planet X is a sci-fi musical, one that has sport with all my favorite bad sci-fi films of the 50s, which include 'Invaders From Mars,' 'The Brain From Planet Arous,' 'Plan Nine From Outer Space,' and 'The Creeping Terror' (which features the first monster entirely made out of carpet), and so many other fine works of cinema. I grew up loving those movies, and I love them still, and now through the magic of musical comedy, I’m getting to relive them all. We have an actual singing Brain, we have two aliens named Zubrick and Yoni (Yoni being the man-hungry female, and Zubrick being the man-hungry male), we have an All-American Family, we have a General, we have an elderly Professor, we have 17 musical numbers and, best of all, the show is set in the San Fernando Valley in 1958."

Kevin Spirtas stood by for Hugh Jackman in The Boy From Oz, and played Corny Collins in the Las Vegas production of Hairspray. He has also been seen on Broadway in A Chorus Line and Meet Me in St. Louis but is best known for his work as Dr. Craig Wesley on "Days of Our Lives." Show times are Dec. 8, 9, 15 and 16 at 8 PM, Dec. 9 and 16 at 2 PM and Dec. 13 and 14 at 7:15 PM.
