Brian Behan, the Irish playwright and younger brother of playwright Brendan Behan, died Nov. 2, in Brighton, England, according to the Associated Press.

His death at age 75 was attributed to a heart attack.

Mr. Behan's first play, Boots for the Footless, was picketed by Irish groups who objected to its stereotypical portrait of Irishmen as "drunk and violent and Irish women as contradictory and conniving," the AP reported. Mr. Behan also penned a book about his mother, "Mother of All the Behans, which had a stage version by Peter Sheridan in 1984. AP described it as "her autobiography, as told to her son." Kathleen Behan "was a courier for the rebels James Connolly and Patrick Pearse during the 1916 Easter Rising against British rule in Ireland."

Mr. Behan's play, The Begrudgers, told of the rivalry between Brendan Behan and writers Brian O'Nolan (whose pen name was Flann O'Brien) and Patrick Kavanagh.

He also wrote the novels "Time to Go" (1979) and "Kathleen" (1988). — By Kenneth Jones
