The American Theatre Wing has attracted a constellation of stars to perform at its September 18 centennial gala, which celebrates “the power of musical theatre in American life over the past 100 years.”

Participating stars include Tony Award winners Brian Stokes Mitchell, Gavin Creel, and Heather Headley; Tony nominees Laura Osnes, Norm Lewis, Santino Fontana, Beth Malone, and Howard McGillin; and other Broadway stars including Taylor Trensch and Natalie Cortez. All will share their talent at the event, which will be held at Cipriani restaurant at 110 East 42nd Street in New York City.

The service organization that created the Tony Awards in memory of one of its co-founders, Antoinette Perry, was started in 1917 as The Stage Women’s War Relief, which enabled theatre folk to support the war effort during World War I. The Wing ran the famous Stage Door Canteen (free to servicemen) during World War II. Partnering with the Broadway League, the Wing launched and continues to host the annual Tonys, recognizing the best in Broadway. The Wing now also oversees and presents the Obie Awards for Off-Broadway achievement, among many other support activities for the theatre community.

Heather Hitchens, president and CEO of the Wing, said, “I am thrilled, honored, and humbled to have this amazing group of performers on board to help the Wing celebrate its centennial. It will be an evening to remember, and a wonderful opportunity for the theatre community to unite and use the power of theatre to send a message of hope into the world,”

Honorary hosts for the gala include David Burtka, Neil Patrick Harris, Julie Chen, Leslie Moonves, Lea DeLaria, Whoopi Goldberg, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, and Samuel L. Jackson. CeCe Black, Nicole Eisenberg, Anki Leeds, Marva A. Smalls, and Nadine Wong serve as gala chairs.

Funds raised at the gala will provide support for the Wing’s programs, which champion “theatrical excellence at every stage and ensure that American Theatre has a dynamic and diverse future.”

The gala includes cocktails, dinner, and the performances. For tickets and more information, contact Jeremiah Hernandez by calling (212) 765-0606 or emailing [email protected].
