The long preview period of the new musical Honeymoon in Vegas continued at the Nederlander without much improvement at the box office. The gross was a lowly 29%, and just 67% of the seats had theatregoers in them. There was a drop in the take of nearly $75,000.
Sting put in his second week as a cast member of his musical The Last Ship. Box office, which was down $38,000 from last week, was 63% of the potential, and houses were at 76% capacity.
Shows doing best this past week include The Elephant Man, The River, It’s Only a Play, Aladdin, Wicked and A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, all near capacity, and The Book of Mormon and Cabaret, which were at capacity. Mormon was even healthier than usual, taking in 134% of its possible gross, with an average paid admission of $212.95.
Beautiful fell at the box office by $118,681, and A Delicate Balance slipped to the tune of $148,148. Kinky Boots, meanwhile, tumbled $169,629.
Even though attendance was on the weak side, with very few shows selling out, overall collections across Broadway on this week before Christmas were slightly better than last week, with $31,278,712, representing nearly a $200,000 jump over last week. The number of shows on the board was steady at 36. For the season to date, monies stood at $793,105,363 across a total of 937 playing weeks. That is a goodly uptick from last season's $702,584,776 across 808 playing weeks. However, the average per-playing-week gross was higher last season: roughly $870,000 a week compared to this season's $850,000.
