The production, directed by five-time Tony Award winner George C. Wolfe, had previously delayed previews after two-time Tony winner Andrea Martin withdrew from the cast following an injury.

The cast is made up of three-time Tony Award winner Nathan Lane as Gary, Tony Award nominee Kristine Nielsen as Janice, and Tony Award winner Julie White as Carol.

The show was originally scheduled to begin performances March 5 with Martin in the role of Janice. Nielsen, who had originally been cast as midwife Carol, assumed Martin's role following her injury. White joined the production shortly after.

Gary is scheduled to officially open on Broadway April 11.

Gary, which is produced by Scott Rudin, takes place just after the conclusion of William Shakespeare’s first tragedy, Titus Andronicus. Set during the fall of the Roman Empire, the years of bloody battles are over, the civil war has ended, and the country has been stolen by madmen. There are casualties everywhere (among them a midwife on the verge of death), and two very lowly servants are charged with cleaning up the bodies.

The creative team includes four-time Tony Award winner Santo Loquasto (scenic design), Tony and Academy Award winner Ann Roth (costume design), nine-time Tony Award winner Jules Fisher and three-time Tony Award winner Peggy Eisenhauer (lighting design), Oscar-nominated composer Danny Elfman (original music), Tony nominee Dan Moses Schreier (sound design), and Tony winner Bill Irwin (movement). Casting is by Telsey + Company.
