News Broadway Rocks at NYC's Makor with Ripley, Rapp, Yazbek, Shaiman in November, December Alice Ripley, Anthony Rapp and David Yazbek, devotees of rock and Broadway music, will sing their eclectic work in a series of concerts at New York City's Makor entitled Broadway Rocks during the months of November and December. Broadway Rocks is only one of theatrically-minded programs at the West 67th Street Jewish center, which will also host Marc Shaiman discussing Hairspray, a reading of Syncopation, and Mel Brooks' "The Producers" on the big screen.

Alice Ripley, Anthony Rapp and David Yazbek, devotees of rock and Broadway music, will sing their eclectic work in a series of concerts at New York City's Makor entitled Broadway Rocks during the months of November and December. Broadway Rocks is only one of theatrically-minded programs at the West 67th Street Jewish center, which will also host Marc Shaiman discussing Hairspray, a reading of Syncopation, and Mel Brooks' "The Producers" on the big screen.

Ripley (Nov. 4), Rapp (Dec. 16), Yazbek (Nov. 18) and Daphne Rubin-Vega (Dec. 2) will all perform their own material. Yazbek, composer of The Full Monty, promises both alternative rock and Broadway performers for his stint.

Marc Shaiman will chat about his phenomenally successful musical Hairspray with Cynthia Tornquist Dec. 9 as a part of the "Curtain Call" discussion series. Also planned for "Curtain Call" are a panel entitled "Young Turks on Broadway" and featuring producer Arielle Tepper and director Daisy Prince on Nov. 11 and a talk with playwright Israel Horowitz (My Old Lady) on Nov. 25.

Syncopation by Allan Knee, is the story of Henry and Anna, two unlikely lovers who fall for each other through the magic of dance. The play, set in 1911 Manhattan, enjoyed several regional productions in the 1999-2000 season. The first public New York reading will take place at 8 PM on Nov. 17.

A second theatre project, Adler, will follow on Dec. 15. A biography of Yiddish theatre star Jacob Adler, the play with music features Michael Goldstrom (The Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged)) and violinist Maria Millar. Tickets to the Broadway Rocks concerts are $25. Tickets for Syncopation and Adler are $8. Tickets for "The Producers," playing Dec. 23, 24 and 26, are $10.
