On Oct. 30, Beauty and the Beast will become the seventh longest-running show on Broadway when it surpasses the original production of 42nd Street. Beauty will play performance number 3,487 on Oct. 30, having originally opened on April 18, 1994 at the Palace Theatre, where another Disney musical, Aida, now resides. More than five million people have seen the New York production of Beauty, which is currently playing the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on West 46th Street. Cats currently holds the record for the longest-running Broadway show; Les Misérables is second; and The Phantom of the Opera recently became the third longest-running show, having surpassed A Chorus Line on Oct. 12.

Featuring a score by Alan Menken, Tim Rice and the late Howard Ashman, Beauty currently stars Jamie-Lynn Sigler as Belle and Steve Blanchard as the Beast with Chris Hoch as Gaston, Beth Fowler as Mrs. Potts, Jeff Brooks as Cogsworth, Bryan Batt as Lumiere, J.B. Adams as Maurice, Pam Klinger as Babette, Mary Stout as Madame de la Grande Bouche and Brad Aspel as Lefou. Nicholas Jonas and Jeremy Bergman alternate in the role of the young Chip.

Beauty and the Beast features a book by the author of the original screenplay, Linda Woolverton, and the musical was directed by Robert Jess Roth.
