Michael Campayno will make his Broadway debut August 1 in the role of Fiyero in the hit Stephen Schwartz-Winnie Holzman musical Wicked at the Gershwin Theatre. He will succeed Jonah Platt, who plays his final performance July 30.

As previously reported, Jennifer DiNoia will assume the role of Elphaba August 1, taking over for Rachel Tucker, who also ends her run July 30.

The cast also currently includes Carrie St. Louis as Glinda, Tony Award winner Judy Kaye as Madame Morrible, Peter Scolari as The Wizard, Dawn E. Cantwell as Nessarose, Michael Genet as Dr. Dillamond and Zachary Noah Piser as Boq.

Pittsburgh native Campayno is a recent graduate of Carnegie Mellon School of Drama who made his television debut as Rolf in NBC’s live telecast of The Sound of Music starring Carrie Underwood. His stage credits include university productions and productions at Pittsburgh CLO; he also played Lancelot opposite Robert Sean Leonard in Camelot.

“The surprising tale of an unlikely friendship between two women in the Land of Oz,” Wicked, according to press notes, “tells the untold story of the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good, long before Dorothy drops in. Elphaba, born with emerald-green skin, is smart, fiery and misunderstood. Glinda is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. The remarkable odyssey of how these unexpected friends changed each other’s lives for good has made Wicked one of the world’s most popular musicals.”
