Classic Arts News Bryan L. Rives Will Be Michigan Opera Theatre's New COO Bryan L. Rives has been appointed Michigan Opera Theatre's chief operating officer.
Rives has held the post of director of the James H. Whiting Auditorium in Flint, Michigan, since 2002. He will take over the COO post in January 2005.

He has also been the executive director of the Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center in St. Louis, Missouri, and the director of the Indiana University Auditorium at IU Bloomington.

David DiChiera, MOT's founder and general director, said, "Bryan's outstanding reputation for facility management and revenue maximization makes him the ideal candidate for the position, especially at this extraordinary juncture in our history."

The company will present the world premiere of Margaret Garner, Richard Danielpour's opera about a fugitive slave with a libretto by Toni Morrison, in May 2005. The opera is also in the process of building a new facility for cultural education and outreach.

MOT's last COO, Brett Batterson, accepted the position of executive director of the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University in June 2004.
