Classic Arts News Bryn Terfel's Tutto Mozart! Makes Billboard Classical Chart
Tutto Mozart!, a collection of arias and ensembles recorded by baritone Bryn Terfel in honor of the composer's 250th birthday, has arrived on the Billboard classical chart. The Deutsche Grammophon release, which features the Scottish Chamber Orchestra conducted by Charles Mackerras, made its chart debut last week at no. 9.
The Sting/John Dowland collection Songs From the Labyrinth, also a DG release, remained in the top slot for the sixth straight week. Paul McCartney's oratorio Ecce Cor Meum, which received its US concert premiere at New York's Carnegie Hall on November 14, rose to no. 2, its highest position so far, while Joshua Bell's Voice of the Violin slipped to no. 3.

Two discs by popular Dutch violinist Andr_ Rieu, Christmas Around the World and The Homecoming!, held the fourth and fifth spots on the chart. Gloryland, Anonymous 4's second collection of traditional American hymns, rose from ninth to sixth place last week, while Hilary Hahn's recording of violin concertos by Paganini and Spohr remained at no. 7.

Andrew Manze's disc of Mozart violin concertos with The English Concert, which had slipped off the Billboard classical chart for one week, returned at no. 17. Another Mozart release, of piano trios performed by violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter, cellist Daniel M‹ller-Schott and pianist Andr_ Previn, also came back to the chart, at no. 22.

There were no newcomers to Billboard's classical crossover chart last week, though the soundtrack to the film The Da Vinci Code re-entered at no. 13. Vocalist Josh Groban's Awake and tenor Andrea Bocelli's Under the Desert Sky remained in the top two slots for the second week in a row.
