News Busch and McGillin to Take Part in Drama Dept.'s Bell, Book and Candle Reading The Drama Dept. will hold a reading of John Van Druten's comedy Bell, Book and Candle next month.

Artistic Director Douglas Carter Beane told Playbill On-Line that the March 14 reading — directed by Carl Andress — will be held at Off Broadway's Lucille Lortel Theatre. Charles Busch, recently represented on Broadway with the revised book for Boy George's Taboo, will play Gillian. The cast will also include former Phantom Howard McGillin as Shepherd. Bell, Book and Candle concerns a modern-day witch who despises her fiancee. Bell, Book and Candle played Broadway's Ethel Barrymore Theatre Nov. 14, 1950-June 2, 1951. Directed by playwright John Van Druten, the cast included Rex Harrison as Shepherd, Lilli Palmer as Gillian, Jean Adair as Miss Holroyd, Larry Gates as Sidney and Scott McKay as Nicky Holroyd. The subsequent movie starred James Stewart, Kim Novack, Jack Lemmon and Ernie Kovacs.
