Hasn't it been loverly?

Cabaret performers have turned playwright and lyricist Alan Jay Lerner's words into the material for club standards; Robert Goulet made his Broadway debut opposite Richard Burton and Julie Andrews in Camelot; Kristen Chenoweth found her past lives in Encores! 2000 revival of On a Clear Day, You Can See Forever.

Reprising material they've touched upon in their careers, cabaret's Christine Andreas, Michael Feinstein, Mary Cleere Haran, Goulet and Chenoweth are among the performers singing "Lerner and Loewe...and Bernstein, Lane Strouse and Weill" at Carnegie Hall June 14 and 15.

The first series, June 14, is geared towards the jazz and cabaret crowd with performers backed by a 13-piece jazz orchestra. Alongside regular club singers like the previously-mentioned Andreas, Feinstein, Cleere Haran plus Fred Hersch, Julius La Rosa, Carol Sloane and the New York Voices are musical theatre's Elaine Stritch, Faith Prince, Chenoweth and Norm Lewis.

June 15, the concert adds a Broadway flavor, bringing on a thirty-piece orchestra for Goulet, Chenoweth, Brent Barrett, Debbie Gravitte, Jennifer Holliday, Andrea Martin, Julia Migenes, Ron Raines, Benjamin Brecher and Lara Teeter. Songs in the evening will run from Lerner's best loved musicals, My Fair Lady, Camelot, Brigadoon, Paint Your Wagon, Gigi and On a Clear Day You Can See Forever (with composer Burton Lane), to his lesser-known works, Love Life with Kurt Weill, Coco with Andre Previn, and 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue with Leonard Bernstein.

Both concerts are part of the American Popular Song Celebration series. Mike Renzi is the musical director.
