News Cabaret’s Bobby Short Hospitalized in California Bobby Short, one of the cabaret world’s leading performers, was hospitalized April 17 after fainting while shopping in Beverly Hills.

Variety reports that the 76-year-old Short was forced to cancel his Thursday performance at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts. This marked the first time the legendary performer has missed a performance in his lengthy career. The industry paper also reports that the singer will undergo a series of tests, but Short is confident he will be able to begin his 35th year at New York’s Cafe Carlyle May 6.

One of the cabaret world’s most revered performers, Bobby Short specializes in the works of Cole Porter and Noel Coward. His numerous recordings include “Songs of New York: Live at the Cafe Carlyle,” “Bobby Short Loves Cole Porter,” “How’s Your Romance?,” “Jump for You,” “Nobody Else But Me,” “Piano” and “Speaking of Love/Sing Me a Swing Song.”
