Dixie Carter, who is best known for her work on TV's "Designing Woman," will kick off the fall season at the Carlyle Sept. 17. The singer-actress, who recently played Mrs. Meers in Broadway's Thoroughly Modern Millie, will reside at the Carlyle through Oct. 9.

Carter will be followed by cabaret veteran Bobby Short, who brings his mix of jazz, theatre tunes and standards to the Carlyle Oct. 12-Dec. 31.

Two stars of the theatre — Ute Lemper and Betty Buckley — will kick off the new year at the Carlyle. The German-born Lemper, seen on Broadway in Chicago, will offer shows Jan. 14-Feb. 26, 2005. And, Tony winner Buckley will bring her newest program to the Carlyle March 1-April 2.

One of the cabaret world’s most revered performers, Bobby Short became a vaudeville entertainer at the age of 12. The singer specializes in the works of Cole Porter and Noel Coward, and his numerous recordings include “Songs of New York: Live at the Cafe Carlyle,” “Bobby Short Loves Cole Porter,” “How’s Your Romance?,” “Jump for You,” “Nobody Else But Me,” “Piano” and “Speaking of Love/Sing Me a Swing Song.”

Dixie Carter made her Broadway debut in Sextet and also appeared in Pal Joey, Master Class and Thoroughly Modern Millie. Among her numerous screen credits are "Comfort and Joy," "Family Law," "Designing Women," "Diff'rent Strokes," "Out of the Blue," "On Our Own," "The Edge of Night" and "The Doctors." Ute Lemper made her Broadway debut in the revival of Kander and Ebb's Chicago, and she is known throughout the world for her unique solo concerts that feature an eclectic array of material. She was named Billboard Crossover Artist of 1993-94, and her theatre credits feature roles in Peter Pan, Cabaret and Blue Angel. Lemper's many solo discs include "Ute Lemper Sings Kurt Weill," "Illusions," "Punishing Kiss," "Berlin Cabaret Songs" and "City of Strangers."

Betty Buckley offered acclaimed performances in Sunset Boulevard, Carrie, Song & Dance, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, 1776 and Promises, Promises. She won a Tony Award for her performance as Grizabella in the Broadway production of Cats, and she starred on the London stage in Promises, Promises and Sunset Boulevard, earning an Olivier Award nomination for her work in the latter.
