Classic Arts News Calgary Philharmonic Announces Lineup for 2006-07 Season, Minczuk's First The Calgary Philharmonic's 2006-07 season, the first under the leadership of music director Roberto Minczuk, will pay tribute to Shostakovich and feature works by Gershwin, John Adams, and Mozart.
Minczuk will conduct the orchestra's opening-night concert on September 15; the program includes Mahler's Symphony No. 5. In February, Minczuk will conduct Shostakovich's Symphony No. 10, in honor of the composer's centennial; the program will also include John Estacio's Wondrous Light and the Sibelius Violin Concerto.

Conductor Zsolt Hamar and pianist Jen‹ Jand‹ will appear in Calgary for the first time to perform Liszt's Hungarian Fantasy for Piano and Kodšly's Psalmus, in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Hungarian uprising.

January's "Mostly Mozart with Louis Lortie" will feature the Canadian pianist conducting and performing Mozart symphonies and concertos. A program of American-themed music will include Harry Freedman's Duke, a tribute to Duke Ellington; Gershwin's Concerto in F, with pianist Stewart Goodyear; and Dvorak's New World Symphony.

Minczuk will lead the CPO premiere of John Adams' On the Transmigration of Souls alongside Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 ("Choral") in May. The season also features a performance of Purcell's King Arthur, narrated by Canadian actor R. H. Thomson.
