News Calhoun-Directed Holy Cross Sucks to Play Ars Nova Beginning Aug. 31 Holy Cross Sucks!, billed as "a comic journey through those unforgettable years of high school," will be presented at the Ars Nova Aug. 31-Oct. 1 with an official opening Sept. 9.

Directed by Brooklyn's Jeff Calhoun, the one-man show features Rob Nash portraying an array of high school regulars: "the virgin," "the homo," "the punk," "the fat kid" and "the slut." The production will play Wednesday through Saturday evenings at 8 PM.

Holy Cross Sucks!, according to production notes, "follows six friends as they navigate those painful, life-defining, and often humiliating years of high school.  We’re never as vulnerable and as vicious, as beautiful and as ugly, as idealistic and apathetic, as vain and as humble as when we’re adolescents."

Rob Nash, whose stand-up has been featured on VH-1 and Comedy Central, was one of the first out gay comics in America. He has performed in comedy clubs and colleges around the country, and has played such international venues as the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the Montreal Comedy Festival.

Jeff Calhoun received a 1994 Tony Award nomination for Best Choreography for the long-running revival of Grease!, which he also directed. His other Broadway credits include Bells Are Ringing, Annie Get Your Gun, The Best Little Whorehouse Goes Public, Tommy Tune Tonite! and The Will Rogers Follies. Calhoun also directed and choreographed the recent Broadway musical Brooklyn.

Tickets for Holy Cross Sucks! are priced at $20 and are available by calling (212) 868-4444 or by visiting www.smarttix.com. The Ars Nova Theater is located in Manhattan at 511 West 54th Street, between 10th and 11th Avenues.
