Alejandro Camacho will star as Count Vlad de Dracul in a new staging of Dracula, scheduled to open Sep. 3 at Mexico City's Teatro Mexico, located at the Manolo Fabregas Theatrical Center.

This new staging of Dracula will be based on the original Bram Stoker's novella, unlike previous Mexican productions, which were based on the 1924 play by Hamilton Deane and John Balderston. According to a spokesperson from the production, this version of Dracula will also have an erotic content, marking another difference between this and previous versions of the famous horror novella.

Also in the cast of Dracula are Ignacio Lopez Tarso (Moon Over Buffalo, Harvey), Mayte Embil (Placido Domingo's nephew), Yadira Carrillo and Juan Ignacio Aranda, all directed by Enrique Pineda (Aventurera).

Designing Dracula are Arturo Nava (sets), Dhyan Pritamo (costumes) and Fernando Mora (make-up).

Antonio Calvo, who created the visual effects for the hit musical Houdini, The Magic of Love will design special special effects for Dracula, which will be produced by Alejandro Camacho and Rebecca Jones. Coincidentally, a musical based in the same horror novella is scheduled to open later this year at Mexico City's Teatro Lirico, with music by the rock group Cristal y Acero and with Mauricio Islas (currently starring in Televisa's soap opera "Preciosa") in the "bloody" leading role.

Information on performance schedules and ticket prices for the Camacho Jones, non-musical Dracula are not yet available.
