Canadian-born Cariou will appear opposite the previously announced David Storch (Angels in America, The Lonesome West), who will portray British television personality David Frost in Peter Morgan's award-winning drama.

Ted Dykstra directs the production, which will run Sept. 13-Oct. 4 at the Playhouse Theatre in Vancouver, followed by an Oct. 13-Nov. 8 run at Canadian Stage Company's Bluma Appel Theatre in Toronto.

Nominated for a 2007 Tony Award for Best Play, Frost/Nixon paints a vivid behind-the-scenes picture of the infamous television interview of a disgraced Nixon in the years following the Watergate scandal. The dramatization culminates in Nixon's admittance and apology for his role in the events that lead to his resignation.

Additional casting and creative duties will be announced shortly.

Cariou's extensive Broadway career includes his Tony-nominated performance as Frederik Egerman in A Little Night Music (a role he reprised for the film opposite Elizabeth Taylor), and his Tony Award-winning turn as Sweeney Todd opposite Angela Lansbury. He has also appeared in Applause, Nightwatch, Cold Storage, Teddy and Alice, Dance a Little Closer, The Speed of Darkness, The Dinner Party and Proof. The former artistic director of the Manitoba Theatre Centre and former associate director of the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis, Cariou's screen appearances include "One Man," "The Four Seasons," "Flags of Our Fathers," "1408," "Executive Decision," and television's "CSI," "Numb3rs," "The Practice" and "The West Wing." Ron Howard directs the film adaptation of Morgan's first Broadway outing, Frost/Nixon, starring original Broadway cast members Frank Langella and Michael Sheen. An upcoming U.S. national tour of the drama will star Stacy Keach as Nixon.
