News Carrie Manolakos Stars as Lizzie Borden in Broadway Records Concept Album Lizzie
The rock concept album Lizzie, which tells the story of accused axe murderess Lizzie Borden, will be released by Broadway Records June 14. The double-disc set will feature Carrie Manolakos as Borden and Storm Large as Borden's sister Emma.

The trial and acquittal of Lizzie Borden in the 1892 murders of her father and stepmother was the subject of much controversy and scandal and, following Borden's acquittal, was never solved. According to the creators, Lizzie is "packed with murder, incest, love, betrayal, sexual manipulation, evidence tampering, bribery, and balls-to-the-wall rock and roll."

Lizzie is described as a re-imagination of Borden's story, and creators Steven Cheslik-DeMeyer, Tim Maner and Alan Stevens Hewitt have depicted her arrest and trial as the creation of a genuine American myth, transforming from a downtrodden unmarried woman to a rock-and-roll legend.

Lizzie, which features new revisions and orchestrations, has been conceived as a stand-alone album that can be expanded into live concerts and theatrical events, a technique which has been utilized by concept albums Jesus Christ Superstar and Tommy, both of which were later staged as musical theatre productions.

Singer/songwriter Manolakos has performed on Broadway in Mamma Mia! and on tour as Elphaba in Wicked. Her debut album Echo was released in April 2012, and her cover of "Creep" by Radiohead, which was recorded in concert at Le Poisson Rouge, has received acclaim and was dubbed an "Eargasm" by Gawker. Large has competed on the reality show "Rock Star: Supernova" and tours with Pink Martini and her own band, the Storm Large Band. Carrie Cimma performs the role of Bridget, the maid, and Ryah Nixon performs as Lizzie’s neighbor and love interest Alice Russell.

Lizzie features music by Steven Cheslik-deMeyer and Alan Stevens Hewitt and lyrics by Cheslik-deMeyer and Tim Maner. The book and additional music are by Maner and additional lyrics by Hewitt. Lizzie is based on an original concept by Cheslik-deMeyer and Maner and orchestrations are by Hewitt. Lizzie is executive produced by The Broadway Consortium and Brunish Trinchero LLC.
