News Cast Recording of James Joyce's The Dead Available in Limited Edition Offer The score of the 2000 Tony Award-winning musical James Joyce's The Dead didn't get a Broadway cast recording, but Pittsburgh Irish & Classical Theatre preserved the songs on disc after its resident run in December 2004.

Lyricist Richard Nelson and composer-lyricist Shaun Davey (who drew from Joyce's story to created the play with music) gave PICT permission to record their Tony-nominated songs for the limited edition CD, which is to be used for promotional purposes only and is not to be used for broadcast. While it's not for commercial sale, fans can snag it if they care to donate $100 to the not-for-profit PICT.

The 13-track recording is 47 minutes long and features the December 2004 PICT cast, including Paul Todaro, Elena Passarello, Carol Ferguson, Stephanie Riso, Joel Ripka, Rosaleen Linehan, Scott J. Pearson, Ingrid Sonnichsen, Daine Michelle Griffith, David Cabot, Derdriu Ring, Kate Young and Larry John Meyers.

Scott Wise directed the production and Douglas Levine was music director.

Lyrics are conceived and adapted by Nelson and Davey, with music by Davey. Nelson won the Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical in 2000 for The Dead and was nominated with Davey for Best Score.

The show, viewed by many as a play with music rather than a traditional musical, has finding a home in regional theatres in North America in recent years. The limited edition CD is available only through Dec. 31, 2005. For more information, visit www.picttheatre.org, call (412) 561-6000 or send requests with donation to PICT, P.O. Box 23607, Pittsburgh, PA. 15222.
