New to the company are Tony nominees Elizabeth A. Davis (Once) and Harry Groener (Oklahoma!), Joby Earle (War Horse), and accordionist Patrick Farrell.

Vogel’s play is inspired by the Sholem Asch play God of Vengeance, the 1923 Broadway production of which led to an indecency trial after depicting a love story between two women and a man vehemently questioning his Jewish faith. The ensemble-driven piece charts the play’s path from conception and development to its hushed stagings in the midst of the Holocaust and the resilient nature of theatre it championed.

Following a world premiere from La Jolla Playhouse and Yale Repertory Theatre, the play premiered Off-Broadway at the Vineyward Theatre before transferring to Broadway’s Cort. The Main Stem engagement earned a Tony Award for director Taichman. Though only running 128 performances, the play has found a significant life beyond Broadway through a Broadway HD filming and PBS broadcast, a cast recording, and myriad regional stagings.

Taichman’s production features choreography by David Dorfman, sets by Riccardo Hernandez, costumes by Emily Rebholz, sound design by Matt Hubbs, lighting design by Christopher Akerlind, and projections by Tal Yarden.
