News Casting Announced for Alabama Shakespeare Festival's Spelling Bee The Alabama Shakespeare Festival will conclude its 2011-12 season with the Tony Award-winning musical comedy The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee Aug. 10-Sept. 2 in Montgomery's Blount Cultural Park.

Directed by ASF producing artistic director Geoffrey Sherman, the cast includes Randy Blair as William Barfee, Eleni Delopoulos as Rona Peretti, Liz Froio as Logaine Schwartzy, John Garry as Leaf Coneybear, Kyle Scatliffe as Mitch Mahoney, Laura Yumi Snell as Marcy Park, Georgia Tapp as Olive Ostrovsky, Brandon Yanez as Chip Tolentino and Billy Sharpe as Vice Principal Panch. Sharpe also serves as the production's dance captain. This musical, which features a score by William Finn and a book by Rachel Sheinkin, "is centered on the finalists of a spelling bee that takes place in the gymnasium of the Putnam County Middle School," according to ASF. "The six quirky prepubescent teens (played by adults) that are competing for the county championship are supervised by three equally wild and wacky grown-ups. A fascinating element of the musical is that audience members are also invited to compete with the spelling bee participants—with hilarious results."

Other members of the creative team include musical director Tom Griffin, set designer Peter Hicks, costume designer Jeffrey Todhunter, lighting designer Phil Monat, sound designer Richelle Thompson and production stage manager Jen Nelson Lane.

The Alabama Shakespeare Festival is located at 1 Festival Drive in Blount Cultural Park in Montgomery, AL. For more information and tickets, call (800) 841-4273 or visit ASF.net.
