News Casting Announced for Benefit Reading of Consent Identity Theater will present a reading of Frank J. Avella's Consent, a play that confronts bullying and homophobia, June 17 at 7 PM at the American Theater of Actors.

The reading will Benefit ACTion: Heart of Europe, a 24-day journey where artists travel to teach theatre to third-world-nation children.

Part of Identity Theater's Self-Discovery Reading Series, the evening will be directed by Identity executive director Nicholas Linnehan. The cast will include Marnie Klar, Adam Levinthal, Ivano Pulito and Abbey Glasure.

Based on factual accounts, Consent, according to press notes "examines the many types of bullying gay youth face, both obvious and subtle. The work focuses on Seth, a troubled 16-year-old, trying to come to terms with his sexuality in the face of ridicule and prejudice. The play honestly depicts Seth’s sexual awakening… [The play] speaks to the responsibilities we all have to teach our children to celebrate their differences instead of denigrating them. The play explores the myriad of reasons gay teens feel compelled to consider suicide and provides a controversial twist to a much too prevalent story."

Consent was a 2012 semi-finalist for the O’Neill National Playwrights Conference and was workshopped this past October at the Celebration Theatre in Los Angeles.

The American Theater of Actors—Sargent Theater is located at 314 W. 54th St. For tickets, priced $10, visit www.brownpapertickets.com/event/394342. For more information go to www.dramaticadventure.com/action/heartofeurope.html.
