News Casting Complete for Beautiful Soup Rep Productions of A Doll's House and A Doll's Life; Benefit Concert, Too The Beautiful Soup Theater Collective will present productions of the short-lived musical A Doll's Life and the classic play upon which it is based, A Doll's House, in repertory this winter. Together, the pieces are billed as Nora in Rep.

The productions, running in repertory Jan. 19, 2012-Feb. 5 at The New Ohio Theatre will be offered individually or in "marathon" days.

Mallory Berlin will star as Nora in the musical version with Kymberly Tuttle as Nora in the Henrik Ibsen classic.

Beautiful Soup founder and artistic director Steven Carl McCasland will direct the musical, which features musical direction by Jeremy Robin Lyons. Thomas Dolan will portray Johan, the part originated by George Hearn in the original Broadway production, with Jonathan Grunert as Otto as well as Mario Castro, Joseph da Fonseca, Anna Kirkland, Alex Pagels, Jordan Shaner, Margaret Dietrich, Lisa Crosby Wipperling and Tal Yardeni. Paul Alexander Hughes stage manages.

Cristina Carrion directs Ibsen's A Doll's House, which also stars Patrick Pizzolorusso as Torvald Helmer with Shannon Munley as Mrs. Lynne, Daniel Mian as Nils Krogstad, Kristin Sgarro as Anne-Marie and Seth Koproski. Tracey Fess stage manages.

The 1982 musical A Doll's Life features a score by Larry Grossman, with book and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green. The notorious flop, which closed after 18 previews and 5 performances, was directed by Hal Prince and starred Betsy Joslyn, George Hearn and Peter Gallagher. The musical, according to press notes, "begins with Nora's infamous doorslam as she leaves Torvald Helmer and chronicles her journey after marriage." Despite its failure, the show received several Tony Award nominations, and an original cast recording was released on the Bay Cities label. Tickets, priced $25, go on sale Nov. 15 at www.smarttix.com. A $5 discount is available for students and seniors. The New Ohio Theatre is located at 154 Christopher Street. To raise funds for the upcoming productions, a benefit concert featuring songs from Broadway's most notorious flops will be held Dec. 4. The 7 PM concert, titled When I'm Drunk, I'm Beautiful: A Celebration of Flops to Benefit Beautiful Soup, will take place at The TAI Group.

The evening will feature songs from Prettybelle, A Doll's Life, Carrie, The Baker's Wife, Merrily We Roll Along and So Long, 174th Street. Mallory Berlin and Steven Carl McCasland will host; performers will include Nikki Van Cassele, Shannon Agnew, Cristina Carrion, Emily Floyd, Anne Richmond, Ellyn Stein, Laurie Strickland, Kymberly Tuttle, Roxy Arrojo, Seanna Burke, Mario Castro, Beau Cybluski, Margaret Dietrich, Kathleen Gubitosi, Dot Mitzvah,  Cara Picone, Jordan Shaner and Tal Yardeni. Jeremy Robin Lyons and McCasland accompany on piano.
