We are happy to welcome guest celebrity blogger Hunter Ryan Herdlicka, who plays Henrik in the Tony-nominated revival of A Little Night Music, which will reopen after a brief hiatus July 13 with two new stars, Bernadette Peters and Elaine Stritch. Herdlicka, who will make his solo cabaret concert debut June 27 at Feinstein's at Loews Regency, will blog for Playbill.com all week; his third entry follows:

Is it weird that my first thought this morning was “Why haven’t I received my electric bill?” It’s the strangest thing; I feel like it should’ve come days ago. Oh well. There are bigger things to worry about…or are there? The last couple of months have been such a rollercoaster for me, and all of us at A Little Night Music — spending two months wondering if our show was going to close, then being told it was closing for sure, then another two weeks guessing if rumors of Bernadette Peters and Elaine Stritch were true, then finally hearing the good news that we were staying open! Now, we are selling tickets through January…whoever thought??

In looking back over the last couple of months, I’m just now realizing all of the wasted time I spent worrying about our show staying open. I guess what I’m getting at, is that as an actor, an artist, a person, we must realize the things that we are powerless over – the things in life that we have no control over. Procrastination, worrying, and anxiety will only hold you back from achieving your goals. I know for a fact that months of worrying about A Little Night Music did nothing to help the situation – and I never dreamt it would turn out like this (Bernadette and Elaine???!!! Amazing.). In all situations, (I remind myself of this when approaching an audition or considering a prospective job) I have to trust that I don’t know what’s best for me. Only my higher power does. As an acting teacher once said, “When you don’t get something you thought you wanted, the universe may be protecting you from something, and leading you to an ever greater destination.”

Now if only I could practice what I preach. It’s a process.

This seems a little deep for a Playbill blog – but as Mary-Mitchell Campbell would say, “It is what it is.” For those of you who don’t know who Mary-Mitchell is, she’s my musical director for my Feinstein’s concert, which is in four days! (Get your tickets now, because it’s almost sold out!!!) But she deserves so much more credit than that – her resume thus far is more impressive than many artists who have been working their entire lives (and she’s young!). She is currently the music director for The Addams Family on Broadway, and also served as Musical Director/Supervisor/Orchestrator for the revivals of Company, Sweeney Todd, Road Show (at the Public), among countless other shows and concerts. Look her up!!! She also founded a non-profit called ASTEP, “which mobilizes the global community of artists to create positive change for children in need.” Visit www.createsomethinggood.org. She is an amazing person and I am honored to be working with her for my concert.

Well it’s nearly the afternoon and it’s time for me to head to the gym before appearing on LX NEW YORK on NBC. If you’re free, tune in!! I’ll be talking about Night Music, as well as my upcoming concert on June 27th. After the shooting, I’m heading to see Everyday Rapture (Break a leg Lindsay Mendez!) and then to a birthday dinner at Agua Dulce. A long, but fulfilling day.

More tomorrow! Thanks for reading!
