Cellist Natalia Gutman to Make U.S. Tour Next Month

The tour begins at the Sanders Theatre in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on January 22 before moving to the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., the North Shore Center in Skokie, Illinois, and the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia. It ends at Alice Tully Hall in New York on January 28.

Gutman performs with violinist Slava Moroz (her son) and pianist Dmitri Shteinberg. The program includes Bach's Third Solo Cello Suite, Brahm's Trio No. 3, Schubert's Arpeggione Sonata, and Shostakovich's Piano Trio No. 2.

Gutman first performed in the United States in 1969, when she appeared with Leopold Stokowski and the American Symphony Orchestra. Shortly thereafter, Soviet authorities forbid her to travel, possibly because she defended cellist Misha Maisky, another target of the government.

After nine years of restricted travel, Gutman began to perform in Europe. She returned to the United States in 1986, and is now seen regularly around the world.
