Richard Chamberlain will star in The Shadow of Greatness, a new play to be presented at the Berkshire Theatre Festival, July 25-Aug. 12. The Stockbridge, MA, fest runs from June 21 to Sept. 2 and will feature four mainstage productions and three offerings in the smaller Unicorn Theatre.
In Shadow, Chambelain plays a "renowned and tormented playwright" who is trying to divest himself of his fame. Somehow, this involves his inviting three of his biggest fans to his New York brownstone on a "dark, cloudy night." Shadow is written by the not-so-renowned playwright, Gary Socol. Martin Rabbett will direct.
The rest of the Main Stage season runs as follows:
• Camelot, the classic Lerner and Loewe musical, starring Maureen O-Flynn, June 21-July 8.
• Toys in the Attic by Lillian Hellman, July 11-22.
• Say Yes!, a new musical, by Wally Harper and Sherman Yellen, centered on the 1939 New York World's Fair, directed by Jay Binder, Aug. 15-Sept. 2.
The Unicorn Theatre season runs as follows:
• Best Kept Secret, A Dangerous Liaison in the Cold War, by Katherine Houghton, directed by John Going, June 16-July 1.
• Coyote on a Fence, by Bruce Graham, directed by James Warwick, July 6-29.
