The production at Victory Gardens Theater gets an extra week of performances due to ticket demand.

Victory Gardens Theater has announced the extension of its first show of its 41st season, Robert Askins’ Tony Award-nominated play Hand to God, due to early ticket demand.

Originally scheduled through October 16, the production will now close October 23. The extension was announced prior to its September 16 start date.

Directed by Gary Griffin, the cast includes Nina Ganet (Jessica), Curtis Edward Jackson (Timothy), Eric Slater (Pastor Greg), Janelle Snow (Margery) and Alex Weisman (Jason/Tyrone).

Opening night is set for September 23.

Here’s how the show is billed: “The God-fearing children of Cypress, Texas spend their after-school hours practicing Christian Puppet Ministry at the local church. When one devout young boy discovers that his hand puppet has a life of its own, all hell breaks loose. Literally. In this hilarious and lightning-paced comedy, Tyrone, a stinging and witty satanic sock puppet soon shows the children, minister, and school bully who’s really in charge.”

The creative team includes Joe Schermoly (scenic design), Janice Pytel (costume design), Christine Binder (lighting design), Chris Kriz (sound design), Michael Dold (properties design), Daniel Dempsey (puppet design) and Isaac Gomez (dramaturgy). The production stage manager is Tina Jach.

The company will offer an ASL Interpreted performance September 30 at 7:30 PM and open-captioned performances September 30 at 7:30 PM, October 1 at 3 PM and October 5 at 2 PM. Audio description performances will be held September 30 at 7:30 PM and October 9 at 3 PM.
