Chicago will be the only stop for the upcoming Jesus Christ Superstar revival with dates in February and March 2000 at a theatre to be announced, according to a press spokesman at Boneau/Bryan-Brown. Previously, Toronto and Boston had also been announced as part of an eight-week, pre-Broadway tour. This production, the first time Jesus Christ Superstar has had a full-scale revival on Broadway since the original 1971 production, has the blessing of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Really Useful Theater Group Ltd. Plans are for an April, 2000 opening at a Broadway theatre to be announced.

A Backstage casting notice reported that Anthony Van Laast will choreograph and Gale Edwards will direct. Open auditions are being held in New York City Aug. 20.

Superstar, the story of Jesus Christ from Palm Sunday through the crucifixion, made its world premiere on Broadway at the Mark Hellinger Oct. 12, 1971. It ran there for 720 performances. The original London production ran for eight years and 3,358 performances, currently the fifth longest running West End show. Songs from the show include the US chart hits "I Don't Know How to Love Him," "Could We Start Again Please" and "Superstar."
