CHICAGO -- Great Women in Gospel proved to be one of the Black Ensemble Theater's sturdiest hits in 1996. On June 11 and 12 the clap-happy musical moves to the huge Skyline Stage at Navy Pier. The rouser will revive director/composer/choreographer Jackie Taylor's tribute to African-American gospel singers and their power to preach, educate and inspire. This salute to holy belters, past and present, recreates the righteous crooning of Mahaliah Jackson, Salli and Roberta Martin, Clara Ward, The Staple Singers, Albertina Walker, Tramine Hawkins and Vickie Winans.
