The Oct. 12 audience at Dame Edna: The Royal Tour at the Booth Theatre was surprised when Sandy Duncan, from Chicago at the Shubert next door, popped onto the stage.
In the first act of Dame Edna Everage's comic show, the fright-wigged Australian diva (alter-ego of actor Barry Humphries) told her enthused audience, "Don't be too noisy! The possums next door at Chicago will hear what a real audience sounds like. Little Sandy Duncan will have a glass pressed up against the wall listening."
Duncan skittered through Shubert Alley during the Chicago intermission and interrupted The Royal Tour's second act, presenting a photo of herself and her fellow cast members listening through glasses, pressed against a wall at the adjoining theatre.
The prank was Duncan's idea after seeing Dame Edna's show a week ago.
