Performances begin Jan. 9, and Lemper will entertain through Jan. 31. At the Carlyle the statuesque performer will be joined by Vana Gierig on piano, Mark Lambert on acoustic guitar and Todd Turkisher on creative drums.

About her new show, Lemper said in a statement, "My musical program, Voyage, will be a journey through the sleepless cities and places of the world, between yesterday and tomorrow, either right here or somewhere at the end of the world — in music, poetry or silence, between war and peace — through the shimmery upper world and the glamorous underworld of whiskey bars, lost souls and show. Of course, I will tell the sagas of the Jimmys, Johnnys and Jennys. Pieces of Berlin, knife stabs of Macky and Lola's sex appeal are in my suitcase of broken dreams. The journey includes musical reflections in Yiddish, Hebrew and Arabic, the dances of Piazzolla, sleepless nights of Brel and Piaf and always a walk on the Weill side of temptations. I'll also include such off-beat contemporary writers as Tom Waits, Nick Cave and Elvis Costello. I keep experiencing music as an expression of the heart in the search for ultimate freedom and peace, as I breathe and live inside the centers of chaos in the worlds of today and yesterday."

Ute Lemper made her Broadway debut in the revival of Kander and Ebb's Chicago, and she is known throughout the world for her unique solo concerts that feature an eclectic array of material. She was named Billboard Crossover Artist of 1993-94, and her theatre credits feature roles in Peter Pan, Cabaret and Blue Angel. Lemper's many solo discs include "Ute Lemper Sings Kurt Weill," "Illusions," "Punishing Kiss," "Berlin Cabaret Songs" and "City of Strangers."

At the Carlyle, Lemper will play Tuesday through Saturday evenings at 8:45 PM with late shows on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 10:45 PM. There is a $50 cover charge but no minimum; dinner is served beginning at 6:30 PM. For reservations, call (212) 570-7189; visit www.thecarlyle.com for more information.
