Critics singled out Borle's comedic dexterity in the role of devious pirate Black Stache in the 2011 Off-Broadway staging of Starcatcher at New York Theatre Workshop. The fanciful stage production is a prequel to the Peter Pan tale, where we learn the origins of J.M. Barrie's classic characters.

It was not clear if Borle, who is currently starring in the NBC musical series "Smash," would be available to appear in the Broadway transfer of Starcatcher. Playbill.com has now confirmed that he will repeat his performance for Broadway audiences. "Smash," which premieres Feb. 6, is currently wrapping up its first 15-episode season.

Borle earned a Tony Award nomination for playing Emmett Forrest in Legally Blonde. He has also appeared on Broadway in Spamalot, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Mary Poppins, Amour, Jesus Christ Superstar and Footloose, as well as the recent Off-Broadway production of Angels in America.

Peter and the Starcatcher will begin Broadway performances March 28 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. It officially opens April 15.

Tony Award winner Rick Elice (Jersey Boys, The Addams Family) penned the stage adaptation, based on the novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. It is directed by Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson Tony Award nominee Alex Timbers and Tony winner Roger Rees (The Addams Family, Nicholas Nickleby). Complete casting for the Broadway engagement will be announced shortly. The original Off-Broadway cast also included Tony nominee Celia Keenan-Bolger (25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Les Miserables, Bachelorette) as Molly and Adam Chanler-Berat (Next to Normal, Rent) as Peter.

Disney Theatrical Productions commissioned the work, which is not billed as a musical, but features a handful of songs by Wayne Barker. Nancy Nagel Gibbs, Greg Schaffert, Eva Price and Tom Smedes produce the Broadway engagement.

Peter and the Starcatcher opened to acclaim Off-Broadway March 9, 2011, and extended its run twice. NYTW is where the Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Rent debuted prior to its Broadway bow in the early 1990's. The new Broadway musical Once, which begins performances Feb. 28, also premiered at NYTW this season.

Steven Hoggett (American Idiot, Black Watch, Once) created the movement for the production, which has set design by Bloody Bloody Tony nominee Donyale Werle, costume design by Paloma Young, lighting design by Jeff Croiter, sound design by Darron L West and musical direction by Marco Paguia.
